A Study of the Congruency between the Interests and Concerns of Student Participants and the Goals, Objectives, and Activities of Vocational Student Organizations.

ABSTRACT
Studies were conducted to determine the goals of five organizations for high school vocational students and the extent to which local clubs are meeting these goals and developing affective skills and leadership abilities through appropriate activities. Survey questionnaires were developed and administered to many local chapters of the following organizations: Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Future Farmers of America (FFA), Future Homemakers of America/Home Economics Related Occupations (FHA-HERO), and Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA). This report summarizes separately the findings of each of the five surveys (which, in general, found the clubs to be instilling leadership qualities in their members and conducting activities that are acceptable to them). 'kne report also makes recommendations for strengthening each of the programs. (KC)

A generation of children in Latin America and the Caribbean are missing out on schooling because of COVID-19

ABSTRACT
Over 11 million cases of coronavirus have been reported in
Latin America and the Caribbean. More than seven months after the first case
hit Brazil, COVID-19 has deprived 97 per cent of the region's students of their
normal schooling. Across the region, the prolonged closure of schools means
that 137 million boys and girls continue to miss out on their education. For
each individual child, this loss has damaging implications for his or her
future. With each passing day of schools being closed, a generational
catastrophe is unfolding, one that will lead to profound consequences for
society as a whole. In other parts of the world, schools have gradually
reopened, but in Latin America and the Caribbean, the vast majority of
classrooms remain closed with no immediate prospect of reopening. This report
discusses the following topics: (1) School closures in Latin America and the
Caribbean region; (2) Risks associated with prolonged school closures; (3)
UNICEF education response; (4) Preparing for school reopening; and (5) Call to
Action.

A Qualitative Analysis of School-Based Agricultural Educators' Strategies

Abstract
Scholars in science education have reported an in increase in scientific literacy due to socioscientific issues (SSI)-based instruction. While several SSI are related to agriculture, such as climate change, whether to eat organic food, land use issues, and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), literature that connects agricultural education to the theoretical framework is scant. This collective case study investigates how National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization teachers utilize school gardens to teach science, including whether and how SSI are utilized as an educational framework. Qualitative data was collected by conducting semistructured interviews with two Ohio school-based agricultural educators, and data was analyzed using the constant comparative method. Findings indicated both teachers utilized applied science teaching methods and expressed frustrations regarding the difficulty of meeting mandated science learning standards. While the teachers often integrated controversial topics in classroom discussions, fidelity to the SSI framework did not appear to be utilized.
